Iran's Arrow: The Rise and Fall of Paykan
An unassuming British car, introduced to Iran in 1967, first rolled off an assembly line in the outskirts of Tehran under the model name Paykan. Few could have guessed that this little car that just kept on going would be continually manufactured for 38 years, becoming the nation’s emblematic vehicle despite the dramatic changes that reverberated through the society around it. The story of the Paykan – its continuing cultural impact in Iran despite the car’s eventual decline – was documented over several years by car enthusiast Shahin Armin, an automotive design engineer in the Detroit area for many years. He’ll be on hand to discuss his insightful documentary following the screening.
