Fjord
Winner of the top prize – the Palme d’Or – at this year’s Cannes Film Festival (where it received a 12-minute standing ovation), the new film from Romanian writer-director Cristian Mungiu (4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days) is a gripping, hypnotic, high-stakes human drama driven by a gradually unfolding moral dilemma. Though set in a supremely picturesque and closely knit Norwegian village, Fjord – based on a true story – feels startlingly universal in 2026. Brilliantly performed by an impeccable ensemble cast that includes Sebastian Stan and Oscar® nominee Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value), Fjord is one of the most thought-provoking movie experiences of the year. Special Presentation, 2026 Toronto International Film Festival. In Romanian, Norwegian, English, Swedish with English subtitles. “Superb! A brilliantly knotted social drama.” - Guy Lodge, Variety

Following the deaths of Mihai's parents, Mihai and Lisbeth Gheorghiu leave their life behind in Romania and move with their children to a remote village in Norway, hoping to rebuild their lives near Lisbeth's family. There, they grow close to their neighbors, the Halbergs, whose warmth gives them hope for a fresh start. But the fragile peace begins to unravel when the Gheorghiu family’s young daughter, Elia, arrives at school covered in bruises.
