Jess Williamson brings her most country-forward work yet to El Club Detroit. The Texas-born, Los Angeles and Marfa-based singer-songwriter has spent years blending country and western traditions with mystical indie folk, alt-pop, and deeply personal songwriting. Now, with her sixth solo album, A Mile South of Heaven, she puts the roots of that sound front and center.

Produced by Shooter Jennings at the legendary Sunset Sound in Los Angeles, A Mile South of Heaven pairs Williamson’s unmistakable voice with steel guitar, fiddle, banjo, and an organic studio band. The result is a vivid collection of songs about love, heartache, ambition, identity, and finding peace somewhere along the journey not at some imagined finish line.

Williamson has earned critical acclaim for her emotionally direct songwriting, with Pitchfork praising her “teardrop voice” and her ability to sound both timeless and unmistakably Texan. Her work with Plains alongside Katie Crutchfield further established her as a defining voice in contemporary Americana.

Expect country, Americana, folk, and indie songwriting delivered with the intimacy and emotional weight that have made Williamson such a compelling live performer.

For fans of: Lucinda Williams, Emmylou Harris, Plains, indie folk, Americana, alt-country, and classic country songwriting.
